Fall 2021

My wife and I worked on this game for a few months ahead of our wedding. We wanted to share it with our friends and family when we sent out the invites. She was the "art director" and made a lot of the creative and aesthetic choices while I did the development. It was really nice to share my new hobby with her.

The "game" is simple: Find six things hidden around a building (playing as either me or her). But even that simplicity took a ton of work to finish. It was fun at every step of the way, but it was another reminder of how important it is to keep the scope of a game limited. There were all kinds of things we wanted to add—and even still a bunch of minor technical issues I'd like to have fixed up—but ultimately it became more important to actually finish the game than to keep trying to make it perfect.

It was also the first game where I really dove in to creating custom graphics. Simple as it looks, it was still a lot of time for both of us drawing pixel art. We really liked how our own character sprites turned out, and she's especially proud of the Southwest jet she drew for the ending.
