I took off from work for a couple days to work on this attempt at a Starfox clone. It's a 3D flight shooter on rails. It was a lot of fun and I learned a ton about colliders, meshes, menu flow, and even some cool enemy scripting techniques.
Ultimately though it gave me an appreciation for how HUGE in scope a game can be, and how challenging it is to get a 3D game to look and feel anywhere near good. The end of the first level is where I planned to have some kind of boss but I decided I wasn't quite ready for that, so I put the game back on the shelf. Still, I'm really happy with the basic systems, especially the flight and movement controls.
